Ethnographic and Folcloric Aspects in the Work of Eastern Bohemian Teachers

This diploma thesis is focused on the generation of committed teachers, regional eastern Bohemia patriotic activists that were interested in ethnography and folklore studies on the amateur level. The first part of the thesis introduces four profession-associates of the same generation, teachers from the end of 19th and the beginning of 20th Century. Subsequent chapters deal with wider cultural-historical context with the emphasis on the history of pedagogy and ethnology. In the thesis there is also the development of homeland studies depicted. These studies were introduced as compulsory at the beginning of 20th Century and were therefore suitable for deepening of the educational role of the school via ethnographical materials. The main focus of the thesis is on the intersection of homeland education and ethnographic activities of mentioned teachers (cooperation with professionals, interest in collecting…) as well as the analysis of their importance to the professional ethnography.

Supervisor's e-mail address: Milos.Kucera@seznam.cz Abstract: This baccalaureate thesis essay titled "Little Red Riding Hood - Who Is the Wolf?" discusses the worldwide - known fairytale about the Little Red Riding Hood. The essay consists of three parts. In the opening segment, the author elaborates on the historical background of the evolution of the fairytale. The first mentions are of the original oral versions known throughout the Europe, but also other parts of the world (Asia, Africa). For the western culture, however, the most important ones are the literally recorded tales by Charles Perrault and Brothers Grimm. The second part focuses on the importance and interpretation of the character of the Wolf in the story. The main antagonist can be viewed either as a masculine figure (seducing type, dark side of a father figure, aggressive masculinity) or a persona with more feminine traits (mother, grandmother, the Great Mother). Both approaches have a significant number of representatives, a brief overview of which is the author's main goal. This thesis is focused on folkloristic work in Chodsko at the end of 19th and beginning of 20th century. The earlier folkloristic work in this area is represented by Božena Němcová. Then there are basic pieces of information about folklore area Chodsko. The authors published their findings in the ethnological magazine Český lid published by Čeněk Zíbrt 1892 - 1914 and then from 1924 to Zíbrt's death in 1932. Contemporary Mongolian folklore.

in english The aim of this work is to acquaint the reader with research on contemporary legends in Mongolia. This topic has not been explored among folklorists enought yet. I focused first on the general characteristics of contemporary legends, its dissemination, typology and history of research. I further elaborated, using literature and my own field research, the actual situation in Mongolia. Collected contemporary legends are accompanied by folkloric commentary. Attention is also paid to the city of Ulan Bator as a place where most of the tales were collected.

Classification of Folk Narrative (Proposal of The Catalogue of Czech Belief Legends)

A B S T R A C T ( E N G L I S H ) Classification and cataloguing of folk narrative has been one of the important topics of folklore comparative studies. The present thesis examines the topic from the theoretical and methodological point of view in its first part and from the appliqued point of view in its second part. The introduction of the theoretical part describes the genre of folk legend on the basis of textual (content, form, structure) and contextual (belief, function, distribution) criteria. Next chapter pursues an analysis of classificatory systems and catalogues of folk narrative of the whole world. The chapter is divided into two main groups according to typological or structural principles. We focus on the development of international folktale catalogue of Aarne-Thompson(-Uther) and its influence, especially when encountered with catalogues of Non-European narratives. We also deal with Czech and Slovak works in cataloguing and our main concern is cataloguing of European folk legends. The content of the following chapter is an overview and evaluation of sources selected as a material for our catalogue.
